Need a nice challenge? Then forget this one. It’s nasty. Cut the Leadville Trail 100 in half, remove all the easy parts, throw in technical descents, burning lungs and wild animals and you'll have a good understanding of what you’re about to get into.

The 50-mile out-and-back course takes racers through the historic mining district on the east side of Leadville, passing many grand and historic gold and silver mines. It will begin at the Cloud City Ski Hut (located just below Colorado Mountain College on Hwy 24 on the south end of Leadville). None of the roads used will be closed to vehicle traffic, so please use caution. The courses will be well marked with fluorescent pink-and-black-striped ribbon and chalk arrows. Fully-stocked aid stations will be available.
Grab your four fastest co-workers and join us at the Silver Rush 50 for the BIKE SHOP TEAM CHALLENGE! The concept is simple: five-person teams will race the full Silver Rush 50 and the team with the lowest total finishing points will be crowned champion! The winners get to keep the nearly four-foot-tall Team Trophy for 364 days with the shop name forever engraved on the front. Saddle up and lets race!
The Details:
We encourage all women's teams, costumes, and riders weighing over 200 pounds. And if you let us know about the worst mechanical one of your teammates has -- and they finish the race -- we may have some swag for you.
Don't work at a bike shop? Beg your way onto a bike shop team by heading over to your local bike shop and encouraging them to participate or form a second team! We hear cases of beer don't hurt.
All teams will be entered into the Bike Shop Team Challenge lottery for the LT100. One of the teams will randomly be drawn and guaranteed full-price entry into the 2013 or defer to the 2014 LT100. Entry for either year must be paid for on the same day. Entries will be drawn immediately following the completion of the SR50 race.
Our massive, nearly four-foot-tall trophy weighs nearly 100 lbs and is the real deal. Made by Rachel of Re-Geared.com, it's the biggest trophy she has ever created! You'll need to clear a place for it in your shop to display it proudly before putting it back up for grabs in 2014. Will you defend it?
All teams must submit a roster that lists their 3 riders. All rosters need to be finalized and submitted by July 1, to pculligan@lifetimefitness.com. We are going to start a Team List on this page in the next week! Get your lists in to us as soon as possible so the locals can see who the competition is!

There will be trash and recycling containers at all full aid stations and the start/finish line. Please discard any trash in an appropriate container or within 100 yards of the aid station. Intentional littering on the course will be grounds for disqualification. The course — on trails both public and private — travels past many historic sites and through areas of exceptional beauty. Help us keep them pristine.
We will be recycling all plastic and aluminum during these races, and all our events. We’ll take care of this at the aid stations. At the start/finish, please ensure you place trash or recyclable materials in the appropriate containers, which will be well marked.
The awards ceremony will be at the start/finish area, starting at 4:30 p.m. Awards are unique and very special. All finishers will receive a Leadville Silver Rush silver bracelet and finishing medal. There are also great age group awards.
Awards will be 3 deep in each division. Age groups are male/female in 10 year increments (20-29, 30-39, etc.)
Qualifying slots for the Leadville Trail 100 will be distributed at the Awards Ceremony. There will be 70-100 slots per qualifying event.
Qualifying slot winners MUST BE PRESENT, as the roll-down qualifiers rule will be in effect at each event. All qualifier slots will be awarded and redeemed on race day. You must pay your entry to the LT100 when you accept your slot. You will have the option to register for the 2013 or 2014 LT100 and must decide when accepting your qualification slot. All entries into the LT100 are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Please see Qualification System Rules.
