Arguably the world’s most famous and toughest mountain bike race, the Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race has only increased in popularity over the past few years as Tour de France riders like Levi Leipheimer and Lance Armstrong have hit the trail to challenge the best mountain bikers including Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Dave Wiens and Rebecca Rusch.
Now through CEO Challenges, CEOs will have the opportunity to test their skills against the grueling course, participants in their age group, and against fellow company CEOs!
“To be a CEO it takes drive, motivation, discipline and hard work,” stated Ted Kennedy, President of CEO Challenges. “Those traits are magnified for CEOs who are also endurance athletes as balancing work, family and training are tricky to say the least. The CEO Challenge provides once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CEOs to prove their fitness in some of the most epic endurance events in the world. With the addition of the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race, we may have just provided the most insane opportunity in our history. I dare any CEO to register today!”
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race is hosted each August in Leadville, Colo., a former mining town that sits at 10,200 feet. The race begins downtown and winds through and over the Rocky Mountains for 103.3 miles—reaching a high point of 12,555 feet. Competitors finishing in less than nine hours receive a coveted gold rodeo-style belt buckle, while finishers in fewer than 12 hours receive a silver buckle (the race course closes at 13 hours).
“We host CEO Challenges at some of the world’s greatest sporting events,” continued Kennedy, “including Subaru Ironman Canada, the XTERRA World Championship in Maui, the Grand Prix UCI Tour in Quebec & Montreal, and the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon. The Leadville Trail 100 MTB ranks right up there with the best in the world. We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to host a CEO Challenge at the Leadville 100 MTB!”
“We’re excited to introduce an entirely new audience to the epic Leadville Trail 100 MTB event,” said Scott Giffin, race director for the Leadville Race Series. “Many mountain bikers dream of participating in this legendary race, and the CEO Challenge is an opportunity for the boardroom to meet the buckle—a true life-list achievement for serious riders.”
The CEO Challenge field will be limited to 15 competitors, and the package includes a very special Welcome Dinner with the Pros, private race check-in, pre-race strategy session, Awards Dinner, and trophies to the top three overall CEO Challenge finishers, plus the first female, and first finisher over 50. A large portion of each CEO’s entry fee will be donated to the Leadville Trail 100 LEGACY Foundation (to benefit to the Leadville community), and to the Challenged Athletes Foundation charities.
