By TCoffman and Tina Lewis

We spent some time catching up with the Champ after the LT100 Run.

Tina Lewis
Strong suits:
Determination and confidence
Up Next: Possibly the Rabbit Run 50 (Steamboat Springs, CO) and North Face Endurance Challenge Championship (San Francisco)

You improved your time significantly in the past two years. Did you alter your training for this year's race? Any advice you can share with other runners who would like to go faster?

I think experience, dedication, confidence, perseverance and improved nutrition are key. You need to believe in yourself (right, Ken Chlouber?)

Most importantly, the fact that a mountain lion was feet away from me close to the finish had me running fast!

You were plagued with stomach issues throughout. Were you able to take in any calories? How did you manage to push beyond that obstacle and still come out the winner?

I knew from last year that it was imperative that I maintain adequate caloric intake throughout the race to finish strong. I had major stomach issues but I forced myself to eat. I have learned from the past two years how to be quicker about vomiting, then running again!

How's the recovery coming? What's your recovery protocol?

My body feels great! My iliotibial bands flared up very early in the race so they are a little sore. I plan on getting a massage, relaxing, eating a ton, and putting my energy elsewhere, like rock climbing and mountaineering, for a short period.

When it comes to these kinds of events, what do you consider your strengths?

I believe I am stubborn, determined, motivated and have a high pain threshold.

What are your favorite things about the LT100? Will you be back next year?

The challenge, the mountains and the historic town! I will likely be back next year.

You've competed in the LT100 mountain bike, also. Other than the obvious difference that the run takes longer than the bike, compare the two races. Do you have a preference?

I respect anyone who starts either of the races. The sheer fact that the foot race takes longer makes it more difficult. In my opinion, the mountain bike race is more attainable and more people can relate to it. RUNNING 100 miles is still seen as insane! My preference is the foot race, no doubt! I enjoy a challenge and it remains one to me even today.

Headed for any more events this year?

Perhaps the Run Rabbit Run 50 miler next month; however, I did the same combination last year and I was not fully recovered so I am unsure at this time. I would definitely like to do the North Face Championships in San Francisco in December.
